   Travis McAvene 

          Head Consultant - USA & Canada 

Travis McAvene has been actively coaching basketball for over 18 years. During his time in coaching, he has built a great reputation as one of the best offensive minds in the coaching profession. He also has won and built championship teams at every level of basketball.

 

 

Recently, McAvene won the 2016 FIBA Copa Mitchell America’s Cup Championship. McAvene also is currently the Head Coach for the USA Jones Cup Women’s National Team and General Manager for the USA Jones Cup Men’s National Team. He has led the USA Jones Cup Men’s National Team to bronze medals in 2012 and 2013 as Head Coach.

 

 

McAvene’s coaching career began as a varsity assistant coach at Lincoln High School (1998-99) in Cambridge City, Indiana. McAvene then went on to become coach at Clark State Community College. From 2002-2004, McAvene became one of the most successful prep school coaches in the country winning back to back prep school national championship at the Division II and III level at New Creations Prep in Richmond, Indiana. During this time, McAvene ‘s teams led the country in scoring in their division and won over 30 games each season.

 

 

In 2005, McAvene took over the Christian Center Prep Academy program in Cincinnati, Ohio. During the 2004-2005 season, McAvene led CCA to a national championship game appearance and a 30-4 record. In 2006, McAvene was Head Coach at Harmony Prep School in Cincinnati, where led them to 30 win season and #2 national ranking behind Oak Hill Academy. From 2002-2006 as a head coach, McAvene sent over 30 players to the NCAA Division I level.

 

 

In the summer of 2006, McAvene began his NCAA Division I college basketball coaching career at Coppin State University in Baltimore, Maryland. There he was in charge of recruiting and worked beside legendary coach Ron “Fang” Mitchell. 

 

 

In 2010, McAvene entered the professional basketball world accepting a head coaching position with the Columbus Crush (ABA). In 2011, McAvene took over as Head of the Cincinnati Slam (UBA), where is he was named UBA Coach of the Year in 2012. McAvene was also named 2012 Eurobasket All-United States Coach of the Year. He was later named Head Coach for the 2012 USA Jones Cup National Team in Taiwan. From 2012-2014, McAvene took over as Head Coach for Southern State College in Hillsboro, Ohio. During this time, McAvene lead Southern State to a 25-3 record and finished #1 in the country (USCAA Division I) in scoring averaging 96.3 ppg. McAvene now has the best record in school history at Southern State College.

 

 

In the fall of 2013, McAvene was named General Manager for the USA Jones Cup National Team.  Coach McAvene was named Head Coach for the USA Mitchell America’s Team in the Dominican Republic in March of 2014 and was offered this position thru 2016. McAvene brought home back to back championships at the 2015 & 2016 FIBA Copa Mitchell America’s Cup and was also named Best Coach in both years by Eurobasket. 

 

 

Now, McAvene resides in Dayton, Ohio with his daughter Jada.
